Honda 40 hp troubles

Timber

Recommended Posts

I bought a used Lund 16 Classic with a 40 hp Honda (2005). Electric start, trim and tilt, tiller. I'm having a difficult time starting the motor. I squeeze the bulb and turn the key, and it'll turn over, but won't start. It may "kick" a few times, but won't start. If I'm lucky and it does start, it runs perfectly----all day long. Even re-starting it several times. But once it sits for a day or more, it will not start. I changed the plugs. Changed the fuel filter. Same problem. Before I bring it in, is there anything else I should try?

I'd have a chat with a Honda dealer/mechanic. I have owned several Honda's and they are good dependable engines. They are fuel fussy at times so be sure to run a clean fuel system. I'm guessing your problem is simple but only somebody familiar with those engines can really check it out. Great motors...but man are those babies HEAVY! Ha Ha Ha!!

Is the bulb getting hard when you prime it?

Are you pushing in the key to prime it as you first begin to crank the engine?

I also agree that those are very sensitive to dirty fuel so it may require a carb cleaning.

But lets 1st make sure you're cold starting correctly
