New Scope

I'm in the market for a new scope. I currently have a leupold VX-2 3-9 for deer hunting. I'm planning on a out of state trip and want to be able to make a 500yrd shot. I don't have enough confidence in my current scope at that distance. Do I go with a 4-12 or bigger. Leaning towards another Leupold or Nikon Monarch. Thanks

I would go out to a 20 power, but that is just me.

What kind of gun do you plan on putting a new scope on?

If it was me I would spend a little more time at the range with your current scope to build your confidence. After 300 yds. your bullet will take a dive. At 500 yds it will drop 3-4' and you will have to take the wind into consideration too. If you really want to get a new scope though and you like the Leupold a VX-3 with a 4.5-14 with a 50 MM objective would be nice.

Ditto highlife. 4.5-14 would be perfect. I have a 4-12 on my 25-06 & it's made shots a lot farther than that on prairie dogs, but 14x woulda been nice!!
