coombia21
If there is any avery pro staff or anybody affiliated with avery, do you know anything about the ffd geese. I cannot find them anywhere, when will they be coming in. I waited all fall last year and they never came in, when will they be coming in this year. There is less than a month until the season opens I would like to buy as soon as I can. Any information would be helpful as the guys at avery are terrible as to giving out info as to when they will be here.
Jared_P
Heard there was paint issues last year and this year they are having trouble with the boat from china. Could be October before they are on the shelves.JP
coombia21
I heard the same thing, and I also heard that last year was the boat issues and this year was paint. Either way they are doing a great job of informing their customers when their products will be on the shelves.
TylerS
Well, Cabela's dropped all Avery/GHG products, so if that doesn't say something about a waterfowl company, I don't know what does. I'd look for a different decoy company, honestly...
coombia21
I know, I like the design of the ghg. I don't really want to spend the extra money on the Dakota's, and I have heard nothing but bad about the avians, I know there is a new model out but the way the bases retract into the body seems like something is going to break especially when there is mud around the slot where they retract in. I am all ears to other opinions on which ones to get.
Jared_P
Still plenty of company's carrying GHG...Just because the big "C" doesn't carry it doesn't mean anything. They have issues yes, but most company's do. Just a little more in the lime light when you as big as them. Doesn't help that you have to rely on a boat to ship from across sea's . I heard the paint issues were due to painting over wet paint. There is like 20 coats of paint on those decoys so I guess they got tired of watching paint dry and thought they would speed it up. coombia21
I called avery today, and he told me the earliest that they will have ffd's is October and it could take longer. So I am just going to buy pro grades, as I will just probably sell them in 2 years when the kinks get worked out. Where is the best deal on pro grades? TylerS
I've been hearing a lot of really good things about the new DOA decoys. Reviews from their reveal at the Oregon Waterfowl Fest were across-the-board positive. I guess the owner used a decoy like a hatchet, and then drop kicked it across the road. Not a scratch. I might have to start adding a half dozen of those bad boys year by year.

JP True, many companies carry GHG/Avery. But when Cabela's -- arguably one of if not the largest outdoor stores in the world, at least as far as sales -- decided to quit carrying your product, to me that says something. I've used GHG/Avery for as long as they've been out. Heck, you can't buy certain items without it being GHG/Avery. For a time, they saturated the market with everything. You literally could be covered head to do to blind bag to decoy spread with their stuff. Then, the bottom fell out. New companies came into the marketplace. Companies like Tanglefree and Heavy Hauler gave Avery a run for its money on the accessories side. Then Dakota, Avian X, the omni-present Bigfoot, and a seemingly slew of decoy companies began chipping away at the GHG monopoly. A few late boats from China, and GHG/Avery started sliding down a slippery slope. The voids they created are quickly being filled by other companies with quality products. While I admire GHG/Avery for what they managed to accomplish, and what they did for the waterfowl industry, they lost my respect when they spread themselves too thin and let their quality suffer. Quality, to me, is the No. 1 priority for any hunting product. If it can't stand up to the rigors of waterfowling, you'll know pretty quick. Quackaddict9
I sold all my FFDs and bought 3 dozen new style Final Approach decoys and they look much better than the old style. Pictures do not do the justice that you see in ads but I have some and they looked decent. I thought the DOA decoys looked goofy but they are tough. Not sure what's the deal with cabelas dropping ghg/Avery products...
