Hey guys, I was just wondering what diets you guys have done for cutting fat. I am currently doing the keto diet, and I have to say it works well. I however am slightly concerned about its affects on my kidneys, so I plan on only doing it for two more weeks. A total of 3. I will mix in some high carb days this weekend to switch it up as well. I haven't lost much for muscle, but man am I getting drained of energy. Thoughts?... Thanks I just wanna get some abs baiscally... I think I have like 10 more pounds left... Im 193 right now and 6'1"

Try the Paleo diet. Most of the people I have put on it if followed strictly have yielded excellent results and there is no stress on the kidneys either. Remember to drink plenty of water when cutting as well.

I do the "Flat Belly Diet for Men". It's an eating lifestyle that centers on MUFA's (mono-unsaturated-fats). Look it up, it's great. I got used to it right away and do it M-F...weekends at the cabin I splurge a bit, but it's really a lifestyle more than a diet. Very easy to follow, and the the food you make is great.

For 3-4 week cutting sessions I basically ditch "brown complex carbs" and eat 2500-2800 calories (depending on workout) of normal lean protein and "green" carbs.

Basically:

0.5g/lb body weight of Fat. ~105g for me

1g/lb body weight Carbs.

Rest = protein until I hit calorie goal.

I do that for 2 weeks or so, then go:

0.5g/lb Fat

0.5g/lb Carbs

Rest = Protein

Until I fail :P

I'm not a fan of fad or odd diets personally, just modifying a normal clean diet as you need.

If possible during cutting, workout right away in the morning after a small meal of protein, complex carbs and a preworkout (a bit after you eat). Definitely allows you to keep carbs/calories low throughout the day and not have to worry about having enough energy to destroy yourself in the gym.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I appreciate it alot. This is my first time ever cutting and I'm still learning. [/quote

I HIGHLY recommend the Jim Stoppani's Shortcut to Shred that I linked. The workouts don't look tough on paper but they are brutal if you take zero rest between set - HIIT cardio - set. Plus each day should only take you 39-48 minutes once you are warmed up and your machines are pre-set.

Luckily I'm always the only one in my gym when I workout so I don't have any downtime.

You could check into Kris Gethin 12 Week cutting program too, I did that when I was getting "back" into fitness in February and cut from 245 to 209. Lost strength of course, but now I fine tuned things to drop weight slower and the Stoppani program beautifully minimizes muscle/strength loss. Your endurance goes through the roof in the Shortcut to Shred!
