Cut Bait Flatheads

I've been surprised at the number of flatheads I've caught lately on cut bait. Last night I picked up a nice 39" X 25 1/2" St Croix flathead on cut bullhead. I started late and didn't feel like catching bait so I just used bullheads. Those nice 6 inch bullheads make great cut bait (snip off the head and tails and they make a perfect sized hunk of cut bait and they bleed like crazy). This guy hammered it.

When you stop and think about it - they love bullheads alive so why wouldn't they want a nice freshly killed, bloody sweet smelling bullhead that is ready to eat. Looks like a good post spawn flathead bite might be right around the corner. Some good flathead fishing ahead and hopefully the river will settle down into its normal stable summer time water level. It was fun fishing last night.

yeah you gotta keep the honest with the cut bait. cut sheepies, chubs and suckers have all put fish in the boat when they weren't eating livebait.

It's too bad everyone on inland rivers can't fish multiple lines simultaneously to keep those fish honest with different baits/tactics.
