Is it over?

First year of bowfishing. My luck was dropped to almost shooting nothing on my home lake. Is the best shooting for the season behind us or do I need to search out some different waters? When the water clears up in the fall does it get good again?

I hear the fall can be just as good as the spring.

If the fish are just off from spawning they will move deep for a couple weeks then return to the shallows. I was out on Wed night and found plenty of fish to shoot lot's of 20 to 30 pounders.

Man, I bowfished all summer during high school. That was before we could shoot at night, too. When the weeds got really thick, we just slowed down our trolling motor and spent a lot more time "glassing." Sure, we didn't whack as many, but it beat fishing!

I've noticed they suddenly disappeared from the shallows in the lakes within in the last couple of weeks. Hope it's just that post-spawn-head-deep scenario the previous poster talked about.

Seems like in years past I was still seeing them up thru August in the shallows while snorkeling and then they did a disappearing act in Sept. by heading deep again.
