MN license location on boat issue?

Recommended Posts

Helping a friend put new letters on his boat tonight.

noticed the regs say no other decals, letters or numbers can be within 24 inches of the registration information.

he has some decals and graphics within about 14" of the registration numbers. Has anyone had issues with this in the past where the DNR has a problem with it?

Just curious.

Thanks

All my boats have had the boat decals from the MFG closer than 24" to the state DNR decals. I believe they mean other decals you may put on the boat.

You should be fine as long as they are factory decals. I would not add say a rod mfg decal within thier limits they state.

Never been questioned in all my years fishing on decals.

I'm guessing that's an outdated law that rarely gets enforced. There are numerous pro fishermen that could get cited for that daily with full boat wraps and sponsor stickers placed in one of the most visible locations, just behind the numbers.

I thought I was going to get a ticket for having my HSO decal to close but the water patrol deputy never said a word about it being to close. I measured it and it was 17 inches from the registration decals and numbers. My registration is up for renewal at the end of this season so I just plan to get a couple new lettering/numbering kits and move it forward of where it is now.
