Duckbill,
What was that? Who died and made you King? All the kid wanted to do was ask a question/ask for help. What in the world is wrong with that? I think you need to lay off.

Hey H/F Kid,
I've been doing some hunting on public land as well, and it too has been slow for me. I'm hunting in So. Mn, so all the water in the fields is really spreading the waterfowl out. Good Luck

All I hunt is public water, but not usually WMA's. I usually hunt the small lakes/sloughs that are surrounded by cattails. So far we've been doing just fair. There are plenty of public waters to hunt if you have a small boat. Good luck!

Duckbill, try to be little more polite, we're FMers not MFers!

All I ever duck hunt is public land! I've been so busy this fall I haven't gotten out yet but the next 3 weekends are good to go.

From the last many previous years, we've noticed a very good opening weekend and than about a 2-3 week lull in birds and then they start picking up again. MEA weekend, which is a couple weeks away, has typically been one of our better weekends.

I live for late season waterfowling and my younger brother does too. He was hunting late in the season last year, where only the big waters are open, and did outstanding!! He's got a pair of awesome Goldeneyes coming back from the taxidermist from one of those days. BUT, you have to put up with breaking ice, cold weather, snow, and did I mention freezing your a$$ off! But to me, thats what duck hunting is about!

When it comes to public land, I personally feel you have to think a little bit differently from the other hunters, and possibly work a little bit harder too. Uhhh, let me rephrase that- WORK ALOT HARDER!

You have to scope out the places that are harder to get to, etc. Anybody can hunt a slough or lake right off the road, but if that slough or lake is a mile away from the road, that will discourage alot of hunters. Some of our best spots take ALOT of work to get out to them. But all that preparation typically pays off in the end.

Walleye,

The question as is stands now is fine but if you look at the post and notice it has been edited. There was a statement on there that was not called for. No I am not god but singling out certain races of people and saying that they skybusting more that anyone else is an ignorant statement.

I drove for about 3 hours Saturday morning checking public lands and lakes and couldnt find #'s birds anywhere. Hopefully with this cold front comming, that will push some of the northern birds down.
