ATV Tire repair

Recommended Posts

I have a small hole in my front tire, I have to add about every 2 weeks, and I am going on a day long ride this weekend. Should I quickie plug it? Or just leave it alone until I am done on my ride?

I have plugged tires as well, but I was told not to plug the factory tires, because the plys, with the low pressure dont hold them very well. So that made me think, should I just leave it alone for this weekend, and just fill it with air, and put a tube in it next week, or just plug it, and chance whether the plug will hold during the ride.

My advice would be to carry a plug kit and compressor and go for it. If you have a problem deal with it then. You know from experience how simple it is and installing it in a stock tire is no different than any other tire. As I said, I have installed many of them on ATV tires over the years (average a couple thousand miles a year) and very few have failed. I personally won't use tubes since I have had more problems with valve stems and such due to the flexing and movement than I ever have had with plugs. One time my buddy sliced a sidewall and it took seven ( yes seven) plugs to seal it and it held for months before he replaced it.
