Birthday Rod for 14 Year Old

Recommended Posts

Just finished this one up last night. It'll be a birthday present for a 14 year old Wisconsin lad. He likes his hunting and fishing so it's got one of my cedar handles with a shotgun shell inlay and deer head while guides are wrapped in blaze orange. Also added some feather inlays.

Built it using a Rainshadow MB783 using MicroWave spinning guide system.

Yes, I make all my own decals. The feathers are actually my first attempt but I thought it went okay. I couldn't tell you what bird they are from but they came from a bag of craft feathers at Michael's. I'm sure other builders do it differently but all I did was lay a thick coat of color preserver on the spot where I put the feather and then carefully laid the feather in place. I then dabbed CP on the feather so it saturated as much as possible. I also got kind of fussy making sure it was laid as even as possible. I thought I did a real good job getting everything to lay even but then magnifying effect of the epoxy revealed every little gap.
