Planting apple trees

If they were bare root and really dormant it may take awhile for them to get going. And the stuff where I was week before memorial day was barely starting to leaf out anyway. You can plant stuff that is growing in pots for awhile yet.

I have another question about the apple trees I planted, they are all still alive, and look fairly healthy. Maybe a little on the dry side, but it has been dry, and I am not there more then 1 time a month or so to water them. Anyhow, should I keep feeding them the miracle grow plant food? If so, how late in the year should I keep giving it to them? When I do go there, I give them each a good 5 gallons of water, with the food mixed in it, and clear any weeds away from them.

Is there anything I should do to them for the fall, to prepare for winter? Or just let them fend for themselves?

OK, not sure I can water the daylights out of them, because there isnt running water anywhere near them, and I need to carry pails of water about 400 yards to them. But I will be there more often from now until December, more then likely every 2-3 weeks, so I will make sure they get water each time.
