LunkerLover84
So I went to the good ole Home Depot in Eagan today to pick up some Lesco fert since I was in the area and Mankato doesn't carry it. Bought a bag of Dimension+Fert(19-0-7) for $47.98 and regular Turf Fert(24-0-11) for $37.98. My question is how much cheaper, if at all, is John Deere Landscapes selling the stuff for? I know in the past they were far and away cheaper than the big box stores. Just wondering if that's still the case. I would have gone there but they're closed on the weekends
LwnmwnMan2
Your price would have been a bit cheaper.
Dave S
I checked some of the big box stores in Kato for fert. only to be turned off by the price. Your local CO-OP will usually beat the BBS prices.I went to Genesis in Le Sueur (behind Cambria) and bought 4 50lb bags of 20-10-10 for $20/bag. LwnmwnMan2
Technically, 20-10-10 is illegal to put on your yard. Minnesota is a Phosphorus free state. Most areas are naturally high in Phosphorus, and to reduce algae blooms, Minnesota has a Phosphorus ban for turf. You can use it for starting new grass seed, or crops, which is why you can still purchase it.Also, crop fertilizer is not the same fertilizer as turf fertilizer. Just like pasture fertilizer is not the same as turf fertilizer. Even from crop to crop there are different blends.Crop fertilizer doesn't typically have any slow release to it, so you get a quick burst, mow like mad for 2-3 weeks, then it dies out.Turf fertilizer will have slow release to it, a poly or sulfer coating so over a period of time it will release, much like the different layers of a jaw breaker. Dave S
Thanks for that info. I know he asked me before recommending it, if it was for a yard and the sq. footage I was working with. He did mention it was a slow release fertilizer.
Tom7227
LEP,At JD in Maplewood a bag of Lesco w/Dimension and 19-0-6 cost me $38.41 total with tax. Fert alone was $36. I'm just a regular guy without an account.Tom
Huskie
Question, what's the benefit of using the dimension brand as opposed to other types of weed and feed fertilizers, I've never used it before, thanks.

Dimension is a pretty emergent for crabgrass. The reason I use it is because it has post emergence control as well for young crabgrass. If you have a crabgrass plant or two that has already germintated fairly recently, Dimension will kill it.Other products are used for Dandelions, Clover, Creeping Charlie.
