Ramps emerging

Well, we are usually 10 degrees cooler and have 12 inches more snow but our ramps are about an Inch tall tonight! Give it a week yet...

Look good today. Leaves don't seem to represent the size of the bulbs right now. Good growth underground with poor over the ground growth early maybe? Leaves seem to just be folding over today in the spots I checked in Beltrami Co.

We went for a little jaunt tonight and checked our two spots on the property and both were up about 3 to 5 inches. I think I will give them 2 more days! No schrooms yet.

Found ramps for the first time last weekend. I never knew what I was missing putting then in scrambled eggs. I've seen some going to seed where the leaves are getting yellow. I harvested the ones that were still green and ate the bulbs and the leaves and they were dynamite. When they start to get yellow or go to seed are they no longer tasty? Sorry for the dumb questions but I just discovered this last Saturday being the wind kept us off the lake so I made the kids go on a walk with me and we had a blast doing this. Thanks.

When they turn yellow you can still harvest the bulbs....

Erik,thats great eat as many as you can because they disappear until next spring! Don't overharvest an area. I usually walk past ten plants and pick one. It will be a long winter craving ramps! We'll have to go out coyote hunting to keep your mind off ramps.

Good advice Pike79 and we will have to get out and chase some coyotes sometime. The ramps sure are strong so a little minced in the dish goes a long way. I never knew what I was missing out on.
