smallies24
Saw in the paper today that redommendations for limits and the season were made for the waterfowl season. The only changes I saw were they recommended cutting the woodduck season to 30 days and leaving the whole season open for Cans. Also, they proposed opening day to be on Sept. 25th. This is the same is the take a kid hunting day. I can't imagine they will have the opener on the same day, it would completely defeat the purpose. Just wanted to let folks know, only time will tell us what they decide for sure.
Benny
The Dakotas are going with the Sept 25th opener as well.I figured Minnesota would start then as well.I bet they have the kids out there the week before, but it doesn't matter to me.I don't hunt Minnesota any more!!!Benny
Koda
I think your confusing Take-a-Kid Hunting Weekend (Sept. 25-Sept. 26), with Youth waterfowl hunt (Sept. 18)[This message has been edited by Koda (edited 07-26-2004).]

full force five
Great, I love eating teal and woodrows best eating duck IMO. Nothing like teal and woodrows on the gril.
smallies24
I have to agree with Tom...the 25th is too early, heck I think Oct 2nd is a bit early for my taste. I'll take a brisk Novomber wind and some big northern greenheads anyday!
Guest
It always comes down to where you hunt, North or South. I looked in my log and it was locked up Nov 4th here last year. 11/14 it was pretty much froze around Willmar. When the lakes are froze and the Wastewater Treatment ponds are locked and you can't break ice in the rivers to get into "vegetation" you're pretty much finished up north. I personally don't care to hunt in the heat but you get use to swatting skeeters throughout the early goose season. If we're alloted 60 days we should be able to utilize those days without driving 200+ miles to do it. I just look at it as opprotunity to get more Woodies and teal. At least we are getting 60 days it could be a 45 or 30 day season. If the season length ever does change we really need to be creative. Why not let the lil duckies rest tues wed thurs once in a while for the sake of extending our season?
jblabsnduck
Also that was a misprint on the woodducks. It should have been canvasbacks.I don't like the ealry opener but you can bet I will be in the blind(armed with bug spray also)
Bryce
Have to check my journal but pretty sure the real ducks were still being shot in the Willmar area well past 11/14. Think I got weathered out at work the Sat before Thanksgiving and drove home in a mild snow storm. What a shoot the next morning. Not for the meek of heart though. Busted butt the next few days and cleaned up. Still birds to be shot after. Early opener stinks. Move to Iowa if you wanna shoot teal and spoonies. skiehunter55
i also read that they changed the opener shooting time from 1200 to 0900 so i'm sure people will be a litte happier, is this true about the time change?
Mark Christianson
100% true on the 9am opener.Crud! I used to bowhunt Saturday morning. Just too many darn things going on at once now.
skiehunter55
i'm kinda glad they moved it up, if only three hours, it at least cuts down the anticipation a little.
bigbucks
I'm with biglakeba$$ I always bowhunt the morning of opening duck hunting. I shot my first ever bow deer that morning 10 years ago. I'll still probably go as I duck hunt less than 300 yards from my house, just can't sit past 8:00am. That's one of those mornings to try a more marginal stand you won't feel bad about burning a morning on as it's short hunt anyway. The good thing about the early opener is we can just quit hunting by 1:30 or 2:00, clean the ducks, take a catnap, & get on stand in plenty of time for the evening hunt. Ah fall, it's brings on such "terrible" choices...
FOOT
I can't believe you guys compalining that Sept 25 is too early to open the season for ducks. Don't you guys like to stand around in mid 80 degree weather incased in a rubber suit sweating your punkers off. Come on guys this is what memories are made of. Why,I remember last year just like it was last year. Sittin in the cattails next to a North Dakota pond with the temperature at a balmy 87 degrees. It's the only time you can get a tan and shoot ducks at the same time.
knucklehead
if our season is cut short in prime time is iowa/ missouri and the dakotas taking 10 days out of the heart of their season too. all we here is how many geese we have......we need to get ahead of the population boom............now you take what has the potential to be the 10 best hunting days of year and close the season..........wow now thats politics talking........just my 2 cents worth
