fishing line help

I'm talking walleye fishing here to preface my question:

I use Stren Magna thin 8# test in the greenish "walleye" color for most of my rods including jig rods. For my live bait aka "lindy rig" rods/reels and have used Fireline for the past while and I like the amazing feel I get. For my leaders I just make my own using the 8# Magna Thin, I have tried 6# before and just prefer to use a bit heavier line in essence maybe trading a few hits for losing less fish that I've already hooked.

Any other suggestions regarding line especially for the Fireline? Thanks.

If it works for you, stick with it. Many will go with a florocarbon leader for clear water as it has a similar reflective index to water making it harder to see to the fish.

I get from your post that maybe you dont like the fireline.. otherwise you would not be asking? Correct me if I am wrong.

Fireline is a fused braid, Which can have a tendency to be somewhat stiff, compared to non coated braids. Get to know the lines an dhow they are made and then make a choice that best fits your fishing style and budget. My own personal pref is PowerPro super slick. But by no means will it be best for you maybe.

I actually like the Fireline fine but I've had it on a few years and since it's time to replace it I was looking for other options like you mentioned the Power Pro. The lake our cabin on is supposedly the 2nd clearest lake in the state (ok, it's clear 2nd clearest???) so the fluorocarbon leader is a good idea. Thanks for your thoughts.

if you do choose to try all floro, dont go higher than 8lb.. Floro is stiffer and does not play well on spinning gear... Also you will need to become adept at a floro to braid knot. If you choose this go slightly higher on your floro lb test as it then absorbs most if not all the shock of a hook set as well.

I personally like mono on my live bait rig reels and use just the straight Trilene XL in the greenish color. I then use floro for my leaders and yes, research knots to use as my mono one isn't as reliable as the "special" floro one I tie. If you want to stay with a "super line" on your reels, I'm personally not the biggest fan of fireline as I find it stiff. I'd opt for the Power Pro as mentioned or the Spiderwire brand. I have spooled up a "super line" on my jig rods but then attach a small swivel and a 4' or so "leader" of floro on the end.
