Painting Interior Question

Hello everyone,

I will be having my basement painted shortly. We are 90% on a color and know we want semi-gloss. My question is, is it okay to have one good coating of paint vs. two coats? I know that a second coat does a job well, but is it worth it?

If anyone wants to do the project, please PM me, as I was going to hire someone anyways. I also have a patch of carpet (about 1ft x 1ft square) that needs to be cut out and replaced (I have the original carpet). So, if you have the trade of both and do an excellent job, let me know!

**Color of wall is currently white.

Thank you kindly.

Usually that's the rule ,2 coats but,if you go to home depot and get glidden duo paint that should be fine I would step up your roller sleeve to a three /quarter inch for deeper coverage.Semi gloss is a two coat deal usually but if your not looking for a Rolex job then it should be fine.

A semi-gloss paint will need 2 coats to look decent, espicially if you are using a darker color. The white will show thru and make it look lighter in spots. It is also very hard to cut in one coat of semi and have it look good. If you put the paint on heavy with the brush, it will be darker than the rolled area's, but too light with the brush and you will see light behind it.

Also with semi gloss it flashes easy. That means if you patch any repairs or nicks and prime the patch you can see it when looking down the wall once it is painted. This really comes into play with natural light. Not sure how many windows in basement but it can really stand out.

1 coat of semi-gloss will show every flaw in the wall and the paint job. 2 coats should even out the sheen and stop flashing, but the high sheen will show any flaws in the dry wall and taping jobs.
