Stan7600
Here's a picture of my wheeled house heater from my 9 year old Ultra Shack. None of this was visible from outside or inside, only after the heater was taken out. The symptoms were it wouldn't stay lit when the wind was blowing. With no wind the heater stayed lit. It uses outside air for combustion so with the rust maybe too much air. I first replaced the thermopile and cleaned the burner and saw none of this damage. The house was parked outside year round so maybe rain accessed. Also the vent is behind the wheel so it would get frozen slush built up sometimes so maybe salt got in some. It's a direct vent through the wall heater. If you have an older one it might be good to check. It might save someone's life. -Stan C. JeffB
That stinks, mines behind the wheel I should probably make a cover for it for travel and winter.
Hoey
It definitely looks like it got wet and salted and stayed wet for quite a while.
BigDogRob
I know my camper had a similar issue, but not nearly as bad as this! I now fire up my furnace through out the summer a few times just to heat it up good to dry it out when we have a high humidity time. I don't know if it solves anything, but it eases my mind that I think I am helping it out.

BigDogRob
Stan...did you use yours in the summer or fire it up when not in use during the summer at all?
hawkeye43
you can go to their HSOforum and order parts to rebuild the whole heater. I wouldn't just throw it away, I didn't check how much it would cost.
Stan7600
No I didn't fire it up at all except in winter. As far as repair I'm giving it to my grandson so I put in a new heater. There was an awful lot of rust in the burner also. Grandson may use it for a long time. I'll tell him to run it once in awhile. Thanks, Stan C.
