Resort on Winnie

High Banks is a nice place, and if you're muskie fishing, the current state record was caught in the High Banks weedbed right in front of the resort... Even if you're walleye/perch fishing you still don't have to travel far most days.

Not sure if we are suppose to avoid promoting any one resort so I will say most all of the resorts on Winnie are great and so are the owners. I have met them over the last 40 years and seen the old ones go--Ron Hunter--and the New ones arrive--Denny's and Nodaks. And it depends on what time in August. The first part the winds are still predominately from the SE but then switch over to northerly later in the month...on a usual year? And this fact is dependent on whether youy are trailering a boat or renting and/or want to fish different lakes. And to complicate it...hard core fishing or family fun? High Banks has good rep but winds may be a factor later in the month; as for the others Eagle's Nest in the Cut Foot area is Wind protected 24/7 and great for kids also. Waleyes should show on a few spots on north shore late Aug otherwise deep basins(30 ft +) near structure and weeds best around mid-Aug. Perch bite starts late July after a mid -ummer slump and found up on shelves near deep water. Some resorts serve alcohol and some don't so may have to bring your own. Both Cass and Itasca are strict on DWI's so stay safe both in the boat and driving.
