creepworm
I am looking at buying an ice 55 but have a question. What depth ranges are there on this unit? I see the dial says 1,2,4, and 10. Does this mean 20,40,80, and 200? These units look awesome but if I have to be in the 80 ft. setting to fish perch in 45 feet of water, that is something I am not willing to do. Thanks for any info. dan z
Your prolly right. But that's why there's adjustable zoom.
gixxer01
You are correct on the settings. However, using zoom would give you 2/3 of the screen useable. Even without zoom, over 1/2 of the dial is useable. Looking at mine, using your scenario, zoom window is from 44'-24' and bottom would be at about 8:30. Since 45' is at the cutoff line for zoom, you would have to set the zoom window to 56'-36' with bottom showing at about 6:30. Or, find 44' of water. ND4LIFE
Don't all mechanical flashers go in these increments? Except maybe the LDC screen Marcum LX-6,7, and 9.
creepworm
Thanks for the info guys. I think that is a deal breaker for me and I will go with the FL-22. It kind of sucks because the 55 looks like a great unit with awesome features, especially for the price, but I fish in 40-50 ft. of water enough that I feel that jumping to an 80 foot range would get annoying.Don't all mechanical flashers go in these increments? Except maybe the LDC screen Marcum LX-6,7, and 9. My fl-12 has a 20,40,60,80, and 200 setting. The fl-22 has a 10,20,30,40,50, and 60 foot setting. Esox_Magnum
If you are going to spend the money on a 22 why not look at the 6 or 7, gives you full screen veiw in dynamic depth as well as a side zoom and still adjustable to anywhere in the water colum....Also has a graph thats handy at times and works great on the boat if you choose...I know the 7 is amazing at those 40-60' depths, bottoms always shows at around 10-11 oclock no matter the depth and the zoom and finer lines are great when fishing deeper schools of fish....Advantage of a full flasher screen and seperate zoom... Feathers Rainin
I fish my bird 45 on lake superior ice in60-100+ ft range and it goes up to 200 ft. I'm sure the 55 is the same or more. The targeted zoom out deep is key! Bottom zoom does no good on suspended trout, pies, tullies, etc
Feathers Rainin
The zoom is so large and the screen is so big it allows you to get a large reading even in really deep water.
gonehunting
Check out Glen's Outdoors online in Grand Rapids for vexilar sales. Got a great price on an FL-22 when Reed's in Walker price matched.
PFUNK
When in auto depth mode it will set to 60 feet if you are fishing 40+ feet. I fished 45 feet last week and in auto it was 0 to 60 feet around the dial. I love mine. Really nice unit. And yes the zoom is very useful when fishing those depths. I would not hesitate to buy one if I were you. I got mine earlier this season off the internet used once and shipped to me for $345 and couldn't be happier. I would suggest talking to dave at profishing supply. He has great prices and great service. This time of year is a great time to buy new.
