travlingypsy
Has anyone had their house with smoothing siding spray foamed? If so does the foam make the exterior wavy when it expands? Any input is great!
hawkeye43
I foamed 2 house and they are fine. They both have .040 sheeting

travlingypsy
I have spray foamed my past couple houses but they have all been RV siding. I did not have any issues with those. I just have heard a horror story of a guy who's house got wavy from the foam.
Lip_Ripper Guy
It will probably get a little bit wavy. The foam is something like 180 degrees when it comes out of the spray gun, so it will cause some expansion of the aluminum. Use .040 aluminum and it won't be bad at all. Certainly not a horror story. The strength and additional sealing qualities of spray foam make it way better than board foam.
GoneFish'n71
I have one that is spray foamed. It does have some waves in it, but the studs are 4' OC because i wanted to keep the weight down. I think with normal stud spaceing you should be fine. You wouldn't beleive the strength spray foam adds to a house. I would be willing to bet if you could hold the sheeting in place, that you could get by with just endwall studs!

I agree with this 100%. If I ever build another one I'll be looking hard at 24" stud spacing for the side walls.
dougger222
Got a call from one of my builders last year on a roof I did for them. the shingles were very wavy. A little digging into it quickly showed the problem was the spray foam insulation which caused the OSB decking to buckle. It was so bad the insulation company had to tear off of the shingles, decking, and insulation and do it over again. The insulation company claimed it was a bad batch of spray foam.
