mmartin
Has anybody switched out the cheap crappy thermostat that they give you with your forced air furnace in your wheel house? Is so what did you get?
Lip_Ripper Guy
I have a regular digital house thermostat in mine. Probably the cheapest one they have at Menards.

Pallansch
Funny you asked I just installed a new digital one today. Super easy, you have to get one with battiers unless you wanna hard wire it off the battery. I plan popping it off when I leave it out in the cold to save battery life. FIRECAT
Ice Castle dealer said putting in a digital thermostat would void the warrenty on the furnace. Im gonna put one in anyway, a buddy has one in his and it seems like it keeps the heat more even.
Tom7227
Problem would come up if the furnace is high efficiency and has a condensate line. If the line freezes the furnace should not turn on and a digital will lock up and not allow the furnace to fire. If the furnace isn't high efficiency it would not be a problem but the digital thermostats are set up to lock at 32 degrees. So a digital in an ice house that sits empty and shut down is a bad idea. The thermostat has nothing to do with even heat, that's due to proper air movement. Jigging Joe
I have one in my house. Love it, if you want it 4 degrees warmer, thats what you'll get. The cheap ones that come with the heaters just are not that accurate.
tisosy11
I have one, but it will not start the heater on it's own if it is too cold. You need to bring the temperature above freezing for mine to take effect. I just flip on the Little Buddy near the tstat and wait. When it isn't brutally cold, I have gotten away with bringing the tstat inside and tricking the unit to think its warmer. This only works if its close to 30 in the house as the heater has to race to keep it above freezing.

I remedied this by taking the cover off thermostat and crossing the wires with a paper clip until it is warm enough in the house to keep it working.
