thermostat

Problem would come up if the furnace is high efficiency and has a condensate line. If the line freezes the furnace should not turn on and a digital will lock up and not allow the furnace to fire. If the furnace isn't high efficiency it would not be a problem but the digital thermostats are set up to lock at 32 degrees. So a digital in an ice house that sits empty and shut down is a bad idea.

The thermostat has nothing to do with even heat, that's due to proper air movement.

I have one, but it will not start the heater on it's own if it is too cold. You need to bring the temperature above freezing for mine to take effect. I just flip on the Little Buddy near the tstat and wait.

When it isn't brutally cold, I have gotten away with bringing the tstat inside and tricking the unit to think its warmer. This only works if its close to 30 in the house as the heater has to race to keep it above freezing.

I did get one, yes it doesn't work when it is cold. I remedied this by taking the cover off thermostat and crossing the wires with a paper clip until it is warm enough in the house to keep it working.
