Repaired ducer cord saved me $90!

Last weekend when I was out fishing right at the good time of the evening my flasher dial lit up and started rolling around and around. I thought cr@p battery is going down, but that was odd since it has lasted up to 3 days of fishing on my Vex-18. When I got home and put it on the charger I noticed a nice hole in the cord about 3/16" up from the ducer puck. I thought she was done and it was going to be $89.99 for a new one. I had heard from someone else on HSO who had patched something with a glue called Aquaseal which is a flexable urethane glue you can get at Cabalas in the wader area. I thought what the heck I have until next weekend to buy a new one if it doesn't work.

I knew having the hole so close to the ducer puck didn't give me much area to work with as I wasn't sure the glue would stick to the puck or may come loose once flexed. The glue does take some time to setup so it does run a bit if you put to much on at once. I put three light layers on over three days to let it dry. I was very pleased that the glue stuck very well to the ducer puck and bonded to the cord as well. It dried not tacky at all and flexs well as you can see in the one picture. I tested it out for 5hrs one day in water and it works Great! If I ever do get a new transducer on any new units I may just go head and do this to the new to help keep it from bending over and cracking also. I think it gives good support to the heavy puck when your running between holes swinging it around. I have now fixed two ducer cords like this on a FL-18 and on a LX3.

Now I have $90 more for gas and bait!
