Muzzleloader help

Recommended Posts

I just recently returned from a deer hunting trip in SD with my muzzleloader. I did fill my tags but I did have some mis-fires. I would pull the trigger and nothing would happen. When I would cock the hammer again and pull the trigger, it usually went off the 2nd time. After cleaning my muzzleloader when I got home, I notice the end of the spring was sticking out by the hammer. (see photo). I am thinking this is my problem, but wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Or knows what my issue is for sure. Thanks.

The hammer is cocked in this photo. You can see the spring sticking out to the left of the firing pin.

My brother- law has the Same gun with the same problem The pin that strikes the primer is dirty, here is what i did to fix it,take screwdriver and push it in until you can get the tip of the screwdriver into those slots and then unscrew the whole pin assembly . Clean pin and spring with some solvent and use a little bore butter on your fingers to lube it up then reinstall.

That is a part that should be cleaned after every 5-10 shots IMO.

Good Luck

Gordie
