Any body have a duck and pheasant report or habitat (water) from South Central North Dakota

i'll be there over MEA week

Just got back from the Guelph area. Birds were plentiful and easy Fri. and Sat. Still plentiful but not so easy after. Birds seemed like they have been pressured real hard. Saw our most mature birds on the northern part of our hunting area about 10 miles north of Guelph. Lots of pheasants if you can get at them. Most of the crops are still in. Walked one of the smaller corn fields (still a half mile each way) and kicked out hundreds of birds. Can't wait to get back after the crops are out. Pheasants were cackling constantly in the field right next to our shack but who's got the energy to walk a mile long corn field after pounding ducks all morning. Sure do love it up there. Dog just wants to go to bed.

Hey Lundexplorer, same model of boat I have We are heading back to Seston S.D this Thursday afternoon.Did pretty good there on opener, did find a few other hunters on our so called private property that no one else was to hunt.Guess the farmer forgot we were comming, oh well plenty of room any way.
We plan on hitting the slew in the early morning then after some cacklers at the start of opener there this weekend.
We had a lot of water in our area, but it was drying up fast, and if the temps hit the 20's like they say, we could be bustin ice to get out there.

You'll find alot of dried up potholes, but the bigger slews will still hold water... and should have LOTS of ducks! Have fun!!!

If you can't find much water... try going north a couple hours.

Hunted South Central N. Dakota Sat through Monday.

Shallow smaller wetlands are dry, but most of the bigger deeper wetlands are just down a bit.
Saturday - Very stiff NW wind. Set up on a smaller pond and shot near a limit (for 4 people) of Gadwall, Widgeon, with a few teal and mallards mixed in.
Sunday - Smaller ponds had ice on them, enough that the lab could walk on it near shore. We set up in the field and had flock after flock of mallards coming in to the dekes. The small ponds opened up quickly at first light, but the the widgeon, teal and gadwalls appeared to have left (for the most part). Shot near a limit (for the two of us) mallards and two geese (one MONSTER goose) that came into the dekes... should've had all three, but didn't know it was three daily per person in the Central flyway.
Monday - Set up in the field again, but the ponds didn't refreeze that night. We had a weather report of light south winds till mid afternoon and them stiff northwest winds... By 8:30 the wind was 25 mph gusting to 40+ out of the NW. Nothing wanted to land on the top of a plowed field. Picked up a few mallards and gadwall...
The best advice I can give you is leave your options open, and check a smaller pond before you set up in the morning. If the pond has any ice, set up in a field near bigger water, if it is open (almost completely) then set up in the water.

I'll be back up there in a week and a half... I can't wait...

Anyone heading to the Northeast corner of South Dakota by Siseton?I am driving by my self and could use some company to keep me awake.I will be leaving Thursday after noon at 2:30 PM from Coon Rapids, Mn.Will pick up any where along the route there and drop off any where within a 30 minute drive of Siseton.Will leave Sunday night at dark for the cities again.
Send an email by Thursday 1PM so I have time to adjust for another rider.

Just got back from Siseton.Man were there Gadwels and widgeon there.Lot's of cacklers(lesser canadas) as well.Saw a few buffy's,golden eyes,and still a few green,blue wing teal and woodies around.Most of them will be gone now after a 20 degree morning.
I saw a lot of Minnesota plates this trip, phesant opener for non resedents was this weekend so I figure that played into all the Minn. plates.
I will be looking for a partner next year as the crew I went with this year did way to much parting for me, I like to have a beer or three AFTER the hunt not while driving aroung pot hole jumping.Any one think they may be intrested in going next year, send a note and I will fill you in on the details such as cost,regulations,and times of year we would go.
