HANDLING DUCKS

Recommended Posts

Just curious as to all this info I am hearing, that you should pickup and clean ducks with gloves and stuff due to all the diseases going around. I talked to a uncle that talked to a meat shop that states this stuff that everyone is worrying about has been around for a long time, but is this just getting notices now due to west nile?? just curious as if I should be handling birds with gloves.

Thanks-

It is because of the West Nile Virus, not the Chronic Waste Disease that they are asking us to use rubber gloves when cleaning birds. If the bird would happen to have the WNV cooking the bird fully will in fact kill the virus.

I have read and heard alot of things on this virus. Apperantly it is most dangerous to the elderly. It has been stated that far more people have had, or will have the WNV without knowing it. Most of us it would eventually go away .. but obviously if you have symptoms, go to the doctor. Some of the symptoms are, Stiff Neck, Dizzyness, Stupor, and fever.

I for one, am not going to hide in the closet over any disease or virus short of a Plague. I will continue to live my lifestyle and enjoy it, however, I will take precautions when cleaning game .. A box of 100 latex gloves cost $5 at the local hardware store .. and they will make getting blood off my hands easier after cleaning.
