Not much wag going on

08 Imprezza and the driver's side wiper is going slower than the tail on a 17 year old Basset hound. It will jiggle a bit when the wipers are turned on but that's about it. The right side seems to work OK. Since I haven't been able to find a Haynes for the car I have not idea what it could be or where to start taking things apart.

Sounds like the nut that holds the arm to the stud is loose.

Thank you sir for the quick response. Kid's car and it's 30 miles away. Where would she find this nut if she were to try and look?

At the base of the wiper arm there is usually some sort of plastic cover. Remove the cover to reveal the nut, make sure the wipers a in the parked position. Tighten the nut, typically either a 13mm or 15mm, with the wiper arm in the correct position.

To prevent in the future, remove the snow and ice from the windshield before you turn the wipers on! You only get so many chances before you ruin the linkage assembly = $$$$$. 30 seconds with an ice scraper and you never have the problem again.

She brought it over and it was done in about 43 seconds. Too bad she didn't try before she drove for 45 minutes to get here.

Well you gave away the answer and obviously tons of folks read FM and realize how easy the repair is. Just wondering, about what would it have cost at your shop to do this. I told the kid that $50 would be close.

Depends, I would say most of the time its a don't worry about it. Most shops have a minimum hoist charge. The one I work at is $25. So if we did charge it would be $25 dollars.
