FLnick87
Where can I get tip-up alarms? The only ones I have seen are the Strike Sensor brand, or making your own out of window alarms. Is there any stores around the metro that carry the strike sensor ones? I went on their HSOforum but have not been able to get a response. Thanks

Gunflint Guy
I received a strike sensor set as a gift several years ago. I discovered they are helpful and fun...for a little while. Each time I went, I found that the beeper kept going off without a flag up. After some trial and error, I discovered that the battery at the flag end of things would get cold and trigger the beeper. This is because the beeper goes off when the flag pulls the tab out of the box at the tip up. It seems that when in, the tab conducts a little electricity through the box. When a flag is pulled the electricity isn't conducted anymore and the beeper beeps. So when the battery get cold, electricity stops, beeper goes off, angler get PO'd, strike sensor sits on shelf not being used next time. I always laugh at the multitude of ice fishing products out there that never work below 32 degrees. I imagine if you work at it, you could rig up a little box for the tip up that would hold one of those chemical hand warmers against the battery area to keep it warm. Or you could do what I did and change the height and orientation of the windows in my shack to allow me to see tip ups a lot better. And I got one of the lights that flash when the flag is up for night fishing. Good luck.
MNCPRGUY
I have not had that problem with mine. I even fashioned a tab out of a Copenhagan lid once and it worked like a charm.
Hawg
Never a problem with mine either, regardless of temp. I've had mine 6-7 years with zero problems.
JohnMickish
Here is something to think about. I made one out of a wireless doorbell. Rig up some sort of tab to hold the button, rig up something on the flag to hit the button (I used a bolt/nut and sandwiched the wire for the flag. When the flag goes up the doorbell rings in the house. I don't have pics but it worked real slick. I came up with it once because I used to use those sensors but I didn't hear it once. OnAFly
Anyone know where I can find some simple bells to put onto a tip-up?
Hawg
Nothing I like better than putzing and building my own stuff but those Strike Sensors are pretty slick and easy. A little spendy but they last a long time, Mine are at least 6-7 years old.
Jim Almquist
Anyone know where I can find some simple bells to put onto a tip-up? Any craft store like Michael's will have them. The clip on one's should be at any Fleet Farm or bait shop. I picked mine up at Marine General in Duluth but that might be too much of a road trip for bells. scott b
You'll save allot of money by going to the craft store for bells. Pick up some beads for rigging while you're there.
FLnick87
Has anyone scene or bought the strike sensor ones recently? I can't get a response from their HSOforum, and fleet farm didn't have any..Are they still in business?
Hawg
Try Reeds, if the company is gone, Reeds usually stocks up pretty good and usually has inventory. I wouldn't worry about service, nothing has ever happened to the 6 I have.
