Wyoming Deer Hunt Pro/Con

Recommended Posts

Right now I hunt with a group of guys that hunts Nebraska each year, we are planning on hunting Colorado ever 4 years. We would like to hunt Wyoming every other year. Can anyone give me any Pro's and Con's to hunting Wyoming for deer. I have done a little looking into it and from what I can see it looks like the odds of a NR getting drawn are pretty decent?

I bow hunted up by Sheridan a few times there is a lot of blm land to hunt the best advice i can give you is get some maps from Wyoming dnr that shows you were the bml land is and study it then go out there before the season starts and scout it all out that way you can get your brain wrapped around all the land out there, there is a lot of good public land and there is a lot of really good looking land that is really bad, trying to get permission on privet land is kinda hard there is some really nice ranchers that will say no and you got the craby ones that wont say nothing and just give you a weird feeling like you should get out of there before he shoots you, but the best advice i can give you is study study study its fun but it can be hard you can buy some tags over the counter but for the better zones is a couple year waiting period, good luck

Hunted muleys out there one year & did well. One nice buck & 3 little ones. Hunted cow elk & antelope another year. Nobody got an elk, of course I saw a nice 5 X 5. I shot the only antelope, but we only hunted them a few hours. We could have have got the other two easy enough, only 3 of us had antelope tags, but those two guys were ready to come home. If you could party hunt we'd have brought 3 home, but you can't...

Hunted out there one year by Lusk. Went with two other guys that were lazy and didn't want to walk in or hike anywhere. Drove around in a truck all day and look from the road. 4 worthless days if you ask me. The last 2 days I told them to drop me off and pick me up at dark. Found out they went back to the truck stop and played pull tabs all day. Long story longer I saw a decent amount of deer on the public land just not a decent buck to shoot. Heard from the landowners in town that permission to hunt antelope is easy as they damage their barb wire fences. Lots of antelope around that area.
