duckster
All sportsman should be environmentalists. Where and what are we going to hunt and fish if we don't protect the environment.?Duckster
strait-meat
The term environmentalist has be perverted in my opinion--I prefer the term "good steward of the land"
Deet
straight-meat, I'm sorry to say this, but just because you have some [unfounded and strange] connotations attached to "environmentalist" doesn't mean your perception is the actual definition. You argue with only emotion - void of facts, data, logic, and science - just like the worst tree huggers and anti's. If you want to fight them, smarten up so you know what you're talking about.
duckster
I agree, some of the labels we give people really don't match what the word means.Ultimately, labels distort the discussion instead of enhancing it. But even so, as a good steward of the land does it make sense to dump hundreds or thousands of pounds of a toxic substance onto our lands and waters in the form of lead shot? I have hunted waterfowl my whole life and was upset when they banned lead. I practiced with steel, made some changes to me equipment and behavior and honestly don't even notice anymore. In fact I use it for upland now as well.At this point it is what it is.
Musky Buck
You got it duckster not to mention how many thousands of rounds were just thrown in the lake, river, marsh, ditch or just lost crawling under fences or whatever talking lead shells, I'd rather see a steel unused shell laying someplace than lead. Do I miss # 4 buckshot for goose hunting with my old 870 30" barrel full choke sure, in a way data, facts or whatever, if I feed the same amount to my cats, meaning 1 gets a gut full of lead and 1 gets a gut full of steel which is most likely to croak ? That's all I need for data, maybe both lol.
strait-meat
Ya I guess it is okay not to use lead when it has been used for years and years in a time when more hunters hunted waterfowl without any of the effects they claim will happen if we would use it today. Good thing we can still listen to the environmentalists when it comes to energy and light bulbs too so we can fill our land-fills full of CFL's which have mercury in them instead. Good thing we listen to GE to use less energy and buy more expensive bulbs--don't mind them that it makes their bottom line bigger. Be careful who tells you what and what their agenda is b/c like this shooting out in CT "rights/freedom" will be taken away but for a "good cause" so it is OK to do. We got to pass some kind of ban on guns/mags "for the children" we have to ban lead in ammo "for clean water and air". The water is slowly getting turned hotter and hotter and the frog doesn't even know it. Pretty pathetic!
duckster
You need to research the lead issue some there is info out there on it. Lead is some pretty toxic stuff. There have been negative affects on wildlife in the past, that is why the restriction to begin with. I guess I don't see it as restricting my rights as much as I see it as protecting our resources. Guess that makes me one of those tree hugging environmentalists. The rest of the rant I won't even bother withDucster

Hmm sorta called it a while back and look how they are trying to strip away our gun/2nd amendment rights, but wait it is to prevent "gun violence and kids lives" so it will be okay b/c if we can save just one kid or prevent one shooting then it will be worth it. Same idea with lead shot, if we can just save the ducks from getting "poisoned" from our lead shot or just save one eagle it will be worth it--keep drinking the kool-aid guys.
