HDS in the truck

I am planning on installing my HDS-7 in the cab of my pickup. What would be the best way to go about doing this. I am thinking mount a ram ball on the front side of the center console. I am going to be running the power cord from the cigarette lighter. Does anybody have any other ideas.

Flip up console or not?

My dad utilized one of the cupholders in his rig. Cut a block of wood out to fit inside the cupholder, then mounted the ram ball to it and attached the gps accordingly.

Worked slick as heck. Only thing was his cupholder was next to the radio which made it easy to see the GPS. If your's are lower it may not work quite as well.

The old truck I had I used a piece of 1x6 maybe 18" or 24" long and mounted a ram mount on the end of it and slid the 1x6 between the folded down portion of the seat and the part you sit on. It pretty much just sandwiched in there. I stained it up real nice and liked it because it was away from the radio controls and dials and it was right next to me making it easy to reach. I also didn't have to worry about drilling holes in the truck or worry about screws pulling out of plastic.

I mounted my 520 to a blue box, I can either run it off a depth finder battery or plug it into truck lighter. I remove my GPS puck from the boat and set it on my dash. If I am using the ATV I can mount puck to the blue box also. Rick

Without doing a bunch of rewiring and messing with my truck how would i make my lowrance lms 520c work in my truck? It has an external gps puck so i know i would need another one of these. Is there an easy way to do it?

Matt

Get a cigarette lighter adapter

Will the cigarette lighter power both the unit and the gps receiver? How does the gps work inside the truck under the windshield?

Yes, it will power both. Just make sure you have the receiver under the windshield for better reception otherwise it may take longer for it to hook up. I just used a small strip of velcro to keep the puck from sliding around on the dash.
