Confused About MN Regs. Help!

I have read the regs a couple times now, it is implied in the meanings but they never come right out and say it. However, it does stress bag limits and that you can mix and match your tags as long as you fall within the guidelines of the zone you hunt. The biggest thing you have got to know is what zone you are hunting in (Hunters Choice, Lottery, Managed, IH, or CWD), each zone has different restrictions on how many, and which tags you can use. Again, I don't know what the CO told you, I don't know if you misunderstood, or if he was giving an example about a certain zone, or whatever, but that is not how the new bag limits work.

I honestly would call someone else, give them a specific example, and see what they say. It might give you piece of mind. I know how I am going to do it.

Again, once you get it figured out, it is actually easier for most of the Minnesotans, especially if they only hunt 1 or 2 different types of zones. Most of us probably only hunt 1 type. If you start hunting 3 or 4 different types, it can get a little bit sketchy and you really need to know what you are doing.

If you were in an intensive harvest area, you could use your main tags for archery and rifle on a does and then your main ML tag on a buck, correct? The tag being your main one or either/or, really doesn't matter. It's a different season with a different main tag.

You are correct. Only your main tag is good for a buck. If I shoot a doe tonight and tag it with my regular archery tag, I cannot go out tomorrow night and shoot a buck, my either sex archery tag is gone. I can however, buy a firearm license and use that tag on a buck.

Thanks Trigger! I called and talked to another officer. He said pretty much what you are saying. You may be SPOT ON!

He also said he wasn't sure and my other answer on Primary Tag use MAY be correct as well.

He was going to make a call to the license department and get back to me as he wasn't 100% certain on his interpretation.

I guess the Jury is still out.

Kinda Scary!

Glad I could help, this has been hashed over on here a number of times. It is always worth the call. There is a lot of misinterpretation on both sides it seams, but this was how it was setup to work so the regs got simplified. Like I said before, once you get it down, they actually are easier, but it seems like a tough concept to get because some of the old regs seem to blend with the new regs, which causes trouble.
