Congrats to gettin your son into the sport and to his 1st deer.

ive used a 243 in the past and havent had a problem droppin an animal with it. i agree with what has been stated earlier. shot placement and bullet type. I favor nosler partitions 100 gr

I'm really happy for the kid. I can remember when my kids got thier 1st ones. He'll grow more confident as his marksmanship improves as seasons pass. Your .243 is a deadly caliber I use as well with 100 grain Sierra handloads It's amazing how much life is left in some animals even with boiler room kill shots. The remark about the .243 losing more deer is without merit or documented reference. Archery and all callibers have lost deer, period. I know you are the proud dad, congrats to both of you. Hope you got some pics.

Congrats to you and your son on a fine hunt. If a hunter is selective, uses good ammo and has good shot placement the .243 is a adequate deer caliber. I started my giels out with 7mm-08 rifles so they'd have a bit more bullet with simuliar recoil. But like others have said it'll do the job fine.
