GOING TO USE FOR ICE FISHING HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS,SHOULD SHOW BOTTOM CONTOUR WITH THE GPS AND LAKE MAPS?????????????????????????

ihave 597 ci hd, no di on mine. gps works great & i also use navionics card in mine. wife was very impressed using gps on open water at night

Down imaging only works if it's moving, does the 587 have a traditinal graph as well? I usemy HDS-5 for GPS on the ice with a Navionics chip and works well...

I'm pretty sure it does have normal sonar as well as the DI capabilities because I think you can split screens to use them simultaneously if I am not mistaken. Performance and operation wise I think it'll be pretty much identical to the Bird 385ci that I use. Here's a review I did on the Humminbird 385. I'm sure most all of what I said in it will apply to the 587.

Yes, your 587DI will work as a gps.

I use my 597 on ice...but I got the ice transducer (and the portable carrying case) for it. The down imaging won't work with the ice transducer, and while the regular graph view does work, I generally use the flasher mode anyway. Useful to have the gps function, and I have the Lakemaster card with mine.

The only thing I will say is that it "does not play well with others". It seems to be hard with the 385, the 597, and I will assume the 587 to tune out interference from other flashers in the vicinity.

I use my 898 cSI for GPS only when i'm ice fishing too

But when i'm walking by a waypoing and i ask my self...What is the bottom like here?, or What's so special about this spot?...I can view the pic and drill a hole exactly where i want to be.

I was just reading that the Humminbird DI units are not recommended for running ice ducers. I guess the signal output could damage the ice ducer.
