They generally do not go on clearance in the fall unless the model is being replaced. Black Friday usually has one or two entry level units at a good discount but as a whole, they do not go on clearance like ice fishing stuff does after February. If you are looking for a new sonar, make sure that you go to Pro Fishing Supply at www.profishingsupply.com and check out their prices. They are about as close to clearance as your going to get. I purchased my last sonar there and besides the price being about the best there is, the service was great as well.

Its usually around the beginning of the new year when you see deals on electronics. This is when companies announce rebates, etc.

Lowrance announced the Gen2 models around that time last year and consequently followed up with rebates on the Gen1 stuff.

Never hurts to search the popular site for used/new stuff either. Man, you can really find some deals, but be careful you can get taken if you dont know what you are getting.

Case in point I bought a lowrance GPS/Sonar with external puck a few years ago . Well, there wasnt the proper cables to connect the puck to the GPS.

was at a store this am talking trolling motors, salesman said all that stuff generally goes on sale next early next spring when all newer models come out & everyone is rushing to get the next best thing for their boat. they dont do fall/winter sales cause they dont have to worry bout shelf space for holiday merchandise type items so stuff does not go on sale in fall

I don't believe the salesman was telling you the truth. For one, there isn't a whole lot of "new models" every year. There may be one or two entry level units that get reworked but that's about it. The Lowrance HDS units have had one major upgrade since '09, and Humminbird has upgraded it's units once in that time frame as well. Last year Lowrance and Humminbird had rebates but that was the first time in along time that I can remember that kind of aggressiveness with electronics, and that was manufacturer driven and not retailer driven.

The Sports Show used to be a great place for electronics but that too is tightening up. There just ins't a whole lot of room in electronics for retailers discount their prices.
