Can anybody shed some light on exactly why that is? If it we're anything to do with their growth rates, I reckon they oughta do the same thing for pike. That 5 lb hog smallie you caught is probably 12-18 yrs old.

The main reason,if my memory is correct,is the smallies group up in the fall and people used to sit on top of them and take limits day after day.Sportsmen who did not like the fact that so many smallies were being harvested made enough noise to the right people and got the current law enacted.

Catch and release only, where? There is a tourney on September 22nd on the St. Croix out of Hudson and I'm assuming smallies will be the majority weighed in.

The catch and release season on the croix only applies upstream of the taylors falls dam.
