Yamaha clutch question

Valv

Recommended Posts

I have an 84 Yamaha V Max 540 that has been sitting for many years, I rebuilt carbs, replaced belt, etc.
Only problem I have is clutch engages at about 4500rpm 4800rpm. Is it correct ?
I thought they should be around 3500rpm.
I don't think lubricating is an issue on clutch shaft.
I also hear belt squeaking if I try to move at slow speed and on tight turns when I start moving.

How tough is to adjust clutch ? Or it's better have a shop do it ? Or I need to replace it ?

Valv...sounds like the rollers aren't rotating...If the sled sat for a while the clutch sure could be tight.... the belt squeaking..could be a worn belt and / or the clutch needs to be shimmed alittle if the belt is not riding on top of clutch... as far as the engagement of 4500rpms that can be fine if the correct helix is in the clutch...If you don't know much about clutchs take it too someone and they can refurbish it in a 1/2 to hour without much cost.....

Thank you for your reply, I think I will take it in, I don't know much about snowmobiles, this is my second one. Belt is brand new, I will hate to ruin it since it's 40 bucks.
