I recently got my hands on a kayak. I'd like to try my luck for smallies and get out Sunday on the river. I live in Maple Grove. Wheres a good place to put in as I've never done this before? Monticello? Dayton?

There are a couple of launches downstream from the power plant in Monticello. If you haven't already, posting in the Mississippi North forum may get you some good info too, bunch of good guys there.

You could also try the Rum out of Cambridge, but the numbers are better on the Miss, IMHO.

Good luck!

Monticello is good, but I guess it all depends on how far you'd like to drive. Up around St Cloud State is an EXCELLENT area, as is around Sartell or Royalton. Clearwater can be good (though, in my opinion, not as good as the aforementioned areas). There's a lot of good water around here for a kayak. smile
