BB & full choke

I thought I read somewhere that it is not good for the choke or the barrel of the gun to use any size shot larger than 2 through a full choke. Is this true? Seems like I have heard of people using BB and a full choke for geese.

My son shoots an 870 winger with a full choke all the time with BB's and swears by it!

You have to have a choke that is steel approved or steel only.

They say it is not good to shoot steel thru a older gun with a fixed full choke barrel due the expansion of the steel shot coming out of the end of the barrel.

I typically shoot a factory mod out of my gun with great results but I just pruchased a Undertaker full waterfowl choke this past weekend so I will pattern it and see how it shoots before I comit to it.

I've been shooting an Undertaker rated "Steel Full" for BBB and T's! That's what it says on the choke. Works great! Though the it has the same inside diameter as a factory modified! So?

Thanks guys was thinking about using that setup for the early goose season this year... sounds like it would be ok through my 870 with factory full choke?

My advice would be to pattern it. Most guns will shoot bigger shot like bb more evenly dispersed and still tight out of a mod compared to full. And as stated shooting large steel shot out of a lead full choke can bulge the barrel. I actually have my best luck with bbb out of my improved cyl beretta for geese.
