Lead core line setup?

I am going to try some lead core this weekend for the first time.

What weight leader do you use and how long of leader do you use?

Also, when tying the lead core to the reel. Do you tie right to the reel or strip out a few inchs of lead and tie on without the lead in the line? Thanks.

you will want to tie a backer line to the reel first then the lead. I use power pro usually as it is thin for the weight. I usually use about 50 yards of backer then 5-6 colors of lead. This is for a lake like mille lacs only needing to get to 25-30 feet down.

I use a 30lb mono backer, stip out some lead and tie the two together. I use a 10' 10 pound fireline leader on the business end, tied to the leadcore with a small swivel.

I usually use a 10 lb fluro leader when in clear water, and a fireline leader for the river.

Goodluck with the leadcore, it can be a great way to put fish in the boat once you get them dialed in!

I have never used lead core and know nothing more about it other than what you guys have posted here. I'm inspired and I think I will give it a try this weekend too. I'll share with all of you how it goes.
