garbage can feed

Recommended Posts

Anyone every done this? Years ago I had a friend that would throw garbage can feeds. Basically you steam food in a new steel garbage can over a fire or carcoal. I'd like to do this for a big gathering we are have at the cabin but can't remember the process? I remember starting with a couple coffee cans in the bottom filled with water and then a grate over them covered with cornhusks as the base. Fill with veggies (potatoes, carrets, onions, cabbaage, corn on cob), sausage, shrimp, etc. Looking for tips if anyone is familar with this? Thanks

I know of people who use old surge milker buckets for this. you can find these at swap meets, or farm sales. they are made out of stainless steel and have a handle that curves around over the top. one person that I saw using one of these hung it from a try pod over a open fire and was making soup in it.

We had a family reunion a few weekends back. There were 27 of us and one of the dinners was this. It was done with a big milk canister. I know they put corn in bottom with everything else on top. It was very good, and pretty easy to do.
