Top water white tail

I was out fishing the other night in the heat and humidity. My generous amounts of Gold Bond Powder was no match for mother nature. Was throwing a Rapala skitter walk-- Zara Spook style bait. Threw it by a dock and a small slimer shot its whole body out of the water and missed the bait. I casted back to the same spot. Whammo the fish hit. Reeled her in and measured a nice 17 in walleye. I'm pretty sure this was the fish that missed it on the first try. My 2nd walleye on a surface lure. Kind of strange, but a nice surprise.

That's funny. I had the same thing happen last Thursday on a Spook. Was getting a few smallies on a shallow hard bottom flat on an inside weedline and had a nice 17" walleye eat the Spook. This was the second walleye I have caught on topwater in my life.

Hah! That's great. I've only ever caught 2 on topwaters. Both on buzzbaits, of all things. Gotta love those 'what the...?' moments once in a while.

Stupid walleyes - they'll bite on anything.

I was just up at Savant Lake, ON for five days of fishing, and caught several nice walleyes at or near the surface throwing big baits for pike. Of course those fish are a wee bit less picky than the more-pressured walleyes we have down here...still fun though!
