RE:Help with new reel selection for daughter

I need help with selection of a new reel for my 11 year old daughter. She wants something she can cast with for bass and northerns, (casting spinnerbaits, spoons, crankbaits etc). I had her try one of my bass baitcasters and she is having trouble with backlashes. She would prefer a push button reel (Spincasting reel). Any suggestions? I want something that is pretty much bullet proof for her and easy to use! Thanks!

My daughter started with and still uses my Curado and rare she gets a backlash... she was about 11 or 12 when she first started using a baitcaster and had it down pretty good within about 15 minutes of practice in the back yard.....

I'd go with a spinning reel in this case. This will allow her to cast lures for pike/bass further than a spincast. It's tough to beat Shimano when it comes to spinning reels. The Symetre is $99.99 and the Sahara is also a top seller at $79.99.

Like Esox; my kids were into baitcasters about that age. But give a good one to learn with!!

If she is set on a spincaster; plan to spend $40- $50 on one. I got a zebco 33 for my wife, and it died the first time out! Bought a diawa,( not shure what model) stripped the line off it and replaced it with 10# XL. It has treated her well so far.

I just bought a BPS Enigma for my son. This is a Baitcaster with antibacklash technology. He pretty much never gets a backlash now unless he is really crazy. Retails at $100. He is 8 by the way.
