Few new one's

Recommended Posts

My son's wanted to make some summer rod's. With my limited experience, guidance and encouragement this is what turned out. All components are from MH except the wood used for the handles. They went with the micro guides on the 7 foot blanks. There happy with there new rod's and if they want to build others, they will only receive guidance and encouragement to completion... wink

P.S, Sorry for no long photo's but I can assure you there are at least 9 micro guides on the 2 silver type blanks. Besides, it's not that (for me) easy taking pictures that look good...

Thank you for the compliments fellah's. It means a lot coming from you as I have seen some of your creations in which I will add, are very inspiring to motivate a guy.

Chad, I can't remember what the "Black & White" patterned stuff is called. It's similar to what is called "Dymondwood" except it's more like a stabilized pressed paper. It turns just as wood does. I'll continue to search for it's origin as I have forgotten.

The center rod which was/is a big fish prize (my son) at an annual fishing trip is comprised of Zebra wood. I crosscut and turn against the grain for a shorter, roundish grain pattern. I laminated some black veneer in for accent. Zebra wood is very dense, and when cutting or turning leaches a disagreeable odor similar to/of the animal barns at the state fair or any other barn housing large animals. eek

Thanks again,

Scott

Here you go Eric.

I copied and pasted some of my invoice. I hope this is not a forum violation and will understand if it is deleted.

CAMO84L 1 Camo Rod Blank 7' 8-12# B.440 T6.0 R3/B6

AVSJ782-SV ATC Viper Spin/Jig 6'6" 1pc 6-10# B.502 T5 - SILVER

AVCB782-SV ATC Viper Crankbait 6'6" 1pc 8-14# B.498 T5.5 - SILVER

NBMT-4-5.5 ATC Nanolite Micro Tip-Top w/ Black Frame (4mm) 5.5/64"

HK2-B S.S. "Loop Style" Hook Keeper - Black

NBMG-11S ATC Nanolite/Black Micro Spinning Guide Set - 11pc

I also stand corrected after viewing my invoice. My original post should of read 11 micro guides instead of 9. blush

It was indeed challenging tying them small guides to the blanks. My son's, 30 and 31 years old will not pose a threat to any rod builders business at this time and most likely never, according to statements made during the build process. I feel as if they didn't care for most of my homemade equipment...or possibly it was the instructor. wink

We also used the Pro Kote epoxy and epoxy paste from MH. My first time using this product and am very satisfied with it.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
