Decided on the Silverado 2008 or newer 1500 4WD....now 4 or 6 speed auto ?

I can't tell you much about a 4 speed but I own a 2011 1/2 ton Silverado with the 6 speed transmission, crew cab. It has the 3.42 rear end and pulls great. Gas mileage is better when there isn't a head wind which is true for just about anything going down the road. When I bought this truck I thought I wanted the 3.73 read end but I think it was only offered in the 6 liter engine. After thinking about how much driving I would be doing without the boat I went with the 5.3 liter with the 6 speed and I am happy with it. Hopefully somebody with a 4 speed will offer their opinion.

Been driving an '09 Silverado extended cab with all the options including the 6-speed. It's the ONLY way to go. Pull it down into Manual and then just punch the buttos up or down......2 3 4 5 6. Hold it in 4 when things get hilly or drop clear to 3 or even 2 coming down the mountain passes.

Mine is a very nice truck. And I've been a Ford man for years.
