Mound Septic

New construction, mound installed late May. No waste to tanks, new house being built. Question is, should there be water in the tanks? Took the man hole covers off today and stick put in shows 4ft of water. I think the 2 tanks sit on top of each other. Measurement was top tank, so does that mean bottom tank is full of water. Also, no water in hole when dug for tanks, and septic stud in basement was capped.

Thanks guys

Rooster,

I would try and get a decent diagram from the installer and put it away for future reference. I would also find out about one tank being on top of the other as that doesn't make sense to me, but I don't know much about mound systems. I do know that having the diagram of the system for the house I bought was very helpful over the years. Not a mound and so I needed info when I wanted to plant trees and such.

If you can get some sort of permanent reference point and measure things out and draw them out with the measurements.

Tom

you mean 2 tanks on top of eachother as in 2 sections of cement with a seam right in the middle? Bottom and Top to make a big tank approx 1500 gallons totall. Depending on county and such i belive in minnesota the minimun septic tank you can have is 1000 gallons. with a 500 effluient tank behing it to pump into the mound system. Two part tanks are the biggest risk for leaking as there is a seam with tar as a sealant possible under the water table leval. Maybe it's leaking, maybe they did fill it with water. maybe there is infiltration in the sewer line from the house to the tank lots of possibilities.

2 precast parts to make one tank (1500 Gallon 2 Part). Looked back at pictures to verify that yes 2 parts stacked to make one tank. Just took both man hole covers off and both had water in them. No water has been added to them. They must be leaking, but i would guess they shouldn't be.
