Plugging in your on board charger... When to do it?

So I was talking to a couple buddies and we started talking about when to plug in your on board chargers for your boats so I thought I would ask the minds out here and see what people do??

So do you charge your boat right away when you get back from a day on the water?

Charge it the day before you get ready to be on the water?

Charge it and leave it plugged in whenever it is parked in the garage?

Courious for the replys!

Thanks ALL-IN

do you think leaving it plugged in all time would mess with an AGM battery? I did that last year and my cranking AGM battery was junk this spring after 10 months. Thank god for warranty.

Make sure your chargers made to charge the AGM's not all are...Some are automatic others can be switched some arent compatible...

Dang Esox.I didn't know that. My charger is an 02 dual in my ranger. How would I figure out if its compatible? would it say on a charger or is google my friend in this case?

esox is right. The sooner you plug your boat in the better. AGM style batteries can be overcharged. If you had an onboard charger like a charging systems international, you can just leave them plugged in and it wont hurt them. Also you get the most overall life out of them if you dont let them drain below 50% before putting on the charger again.

actually found my manual for my charger. says it can charge agm batteries. i think im going to keep plugging them in as soon as i get home but then unplugging after they are charged. Then plug back in before fishing. The only AGM battery I have is my cranking so I doubt it ever gets below 50%. must of just got a bad battery.
