3 way rigs

Recommended Posts

I have been wanting to try a 3 way rig with a crankbait and have never tried this. What do you guys use for a dropper weight and how long of a dropper do you typically use? Also do you have issues with a good fighting fish making a mess of the 3 way by wrapping around the dropper? Thanks

I use a bell sinker for my drop weight, I have also used a no snag sinker. I usually run a 6-12 inch dropper leader. I have not had any issues with fish tangling up the 3 way, usually if I get tangled it happens in storage in the boat.

Another thing to look at is the snell length from 3-way to crank. I will typically use a 3-5 foot snell, depending on type of crank being use.

Well I tried it out Friday night on a lake in the Mankato area and ended up with a couple 4lb pike and 2 very ambitious sunfish who tried to eat a walleye sized floating rap! Now that surprised me. No Walters though but I will keep trying it out.

Kato I used a 1 oz bell type sinker with about a 2 ft dropper line (although I might go heavier if I do it again). I had about a 5 ft snell line to the lure which was a floating rapala #9 size. I'm not sure if it would work behind a bottom bouncer as it might be too close to the bottom and the crankbait might end up diving into the bottom? I didn't have any problems with the dropper getting wound up with the snell line either.

One question that I thought of is there any reason this wouldn't work as one of several presentations drifting? It wouldn't seem like you need to move real fast for a floater to have action & with the weight it's not like it's coming to the surface.
