Hope you are catching fish

I have only been out 3 days this spring, when I took 60 kids fishing with the Let's Go Fishing With Seniors program. Feb 26th I slipped on the ice at Mille Lacs and tore my meniscus in my knee, plus I came down with a killer cold that laid me flat for 3 weeks. Last Monday I had surgery to repair the knee, what a change, finally a lot less pain than I have had in 3 month's. It will take a while to fully heal but it is way better. I was gonna hit the water Saturday, but it was just too dog gone hot, now the storms are back! So I will keep plugging away at my yard till I can get the boat in the water.

I was out for the first time in a boat this past Friday on Lake Superior so I guess we've both been out of commission! It's sad! AND I got skunked! laugh

Glad you're healing up though. You'll be out in no time. I'm really loving the cooler weather too. It's supposed to get down to 43 tonight in Carlton and I work the next 3 days/afternoons so no fishing for me.

I've been lucky enough to dip my line in the water a few times this season...and even lucky enough to find my way onto a few boats! Work has taken me to Rush Lake and Goose Lake, in Chisago County, so I'd say I focus my efforts there. When I'm killing time on Rush, I like to head to the North or South end of either one of the two lakes and catch northerns on a spinner bait. During Spring I spent my time panfishing in the channel. I think soon I might start trying for the perch that folks are having such good luck with this year.

I can't help but enjoy bluegill fishing every time I go to Goose Lake. There's nice bass, northerns, and walleyes in that lake, but bobber fishing for sunnies gets me every time. Maybe it's my mindset when I'm there. It's a laid-back, relaxing lake to sit on.

A few weeks back, a couple friends took me fishing on Mille Lacs, and I think we may have had the best day ever. One of the guys fishes it regularly, so he knows all the sweet spots and took care of navigation. We ended up taking home seven fish and throwing back 15 big ones. Aside from the walleyes though, it was a great way to waste a Wednesday afternoon. There's nothing like a day of fishing with good company!

So far, the fish are getting fried, with the exception of one batch of Mille Lacs walleye. I like to cover the fillets in plain yellow mustard and then put them straight to the flour and seasoning (salt, pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper) and on into the fry oil. With that one batch of walleye, I broiled the fillets with a little olive oil, salt, pepper, and dill.

I'll see if I can attach a few pictures of the fish..If anyone likes to share recipes, I'm interested other people's favorite way of cooking the keepers...

catch-o-the day: a 17 inch bass and a 25 inch northern...nothing to brag about on a fishing forum, but I'll take it.

Somebody busted out my car window and stole my worthless (although priceless) camera. Looks like it's gonna be fishing stories from here on out.

Oh it was a lot of fun..I got spoiled rotten with fishing this summer!

My son and I made a short trip out to Parley today, caught a few small yellow perch, and then drove down to Courthouse Lake in Chaska. Here's the question for any generous person out there to answer: How do you get those trout in Courthouse to bite? I was using a bobber and a worm, and that didn't work. We've only got until Wednesday to catch a few..

Here's one from a fun day on Knife Lake..

There's the slot limit on that lake, so all of em between 24 and 36 inches gotta go back. That regulation is pretty good at increasing the average size of northerns in a population... Maybe next time I will catch the biggun!

We fished from a Wenonah. Made out of kevlar, I think. Real light. The woman I went with races canoes. I don't know much about canoes, but I got the impression that it was pretty swanky. Her pride and joy.

Only thing about it is that you have to be real gentle with the body of the boat. It damages easily. When we were loading stuff into it, we had to be real careful about not letting it bump on the gravel too much.
