Dog has diarrhea

She is on purina pro plan shredded blend....normally pro plan large breed formula but there was a special or the other

If you have been on the same food for the whole month of June, then I wouldn't suspect it would still be affecting the dog now, she should have adjusted. If you changed in the last two weeks, yes that "could" be the problem.

Think about it though, dog gets some penicillin for a week and it clears up, but then comes back. Has to be some sort of intestinal bug!

Is the dog on any heartworm meds? Some of them like Sentinal have stuff to kill worms (hook and ring). Those can also cause the runs.

Just seems odd that it clears up when the dog gets a short dose of med and then comes back right after.

She just gets her normal heart guard monthly. When I was at the vet last they checked her stool and everything was ok. I did take her off all food two days ago, then yesterday I gave her a cup of rice and a cup of hamburger. Looks like it is starting to clear again. Her stool is solid but it's still soft.

Hopefully she continues to get better. If she continues to have diarrhea like Muleshack said the bacteria might not have showed up on the test and might have to go on the antibiotics again.I don't know which one of the vets at rum river you saw but there are A couple there that we don't care for our selves.

Dont take this the wrong way, but some vets just stick a Qtip in there to get a sample if you didn't bring a real pile in. If that was the case, it is only sampling from one area especially if she has the runs when testing?

I was also told there is two kinds of tests, one they do in house for the basics and another they send out to a lab...

Id agree, that if you did indeed switch food, it could be enough to upset the stomach of the dog.. It cant hurt to go back to the others you were feeding, perhaps just buy a smaller bag of it and see if it takes cure of the problem itself. I personally would start with 1/2 ration of the original food and see where it goes from there.. Please make sure your pup is getting enuff h2o also, as this heat is not good for dogs, (or humans) lol.. my pup likes ice cubes as treats .

When i took her in the first time i brought in fresh stool. It had to sit in te bed of the truck lol. And the vet at Rum River was one of the guys. Normally she sees one of the lady vets. The fuy who checked up on her last i didnt think he was real good.

I switched her back to her normal food and got more meds and it's starting to clear up and her stool is becoming solid again. Hard to tell if it's the meds helping or switching her back to her normal food. Either way it's working!
